Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia says the body of one of the nine women found in Ekurhuleni has yet to be identified.
Cachalia was speaking during a briefing by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide in Pretoria on Sunday.
He says eight of the nine victims have now been positively identified, an increase from the four identifications reported earlier in the week.
Cachalia says seven families have been informed, while authorities are still working to locate the family of the remaining unidentified victim.
He says the authorities will only release further details once the family has been notified.
“We reported earlier that there were nine bodies. These were all young women, nine victims. Eight have been positively identified now. Earlier in the week it was four, and there is one outstanding,” Cachalia said.
He added that one family had not yet been contacted because authorities did not have an address for them.
The discoveries have prompted heightened concern in Ekurhuleni, with police continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
