The trial within a trial in the attempted murder case involving Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and four co-accused is set to continue in the Johannesburg High Court on Thursday.
Proceedings were postponed on Tuesday to give the State time to study new documents that accused number one, Musa Kekana’s defence, intends to introduce as evidence.
Matlala is accused of orchestrating three separate failed assassination attempts targeting his former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Joe Sibanyoni and music producer Seunkie Mokubung.
Kekana’s defence is expected to present tracking data showing the locations of police vehicles allegedly used during his 2024 arrest in connection with the alleged murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.
Tensions ran high in court on Tuesday when a confrontation broke out between police and some of the accused after officers allegedly attempted to prevent them from consulting with their legal representatives.
The judge intervened and ordered that the accused be allowed to consult with their lawyers.
The trial within a trial is expected to determine the admissibility of evidence before the main proceedings can continue.
