The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has achieved a clean audit for the first time in its history.
The department has attributed the milestone to strengthened financial controls, improved accountability and a series of reforms implemented under MEC Martin Meyer.
Officials say the clean audit reflects efforts to improve governance and financial management within the department.
Departmental spokesperson Steve Bhengu said the achievement could also help strengthen investor confidence in KwaZulu-Natal’s infrastructure sector.
“Securing this clean audit for the very first time translates into a commitment to becoming an evolved entity and one that can be seen as a trustworthy partner for the private sector, investors, developers and major financial institutions,” Bhengu said.
He said the improved financial standing would help create opportunities for greater collaboration and investment in infrastructure development across the province.
The department believes the clean audit will strengthen its credibility among private-sector partners and financial institutions while supporting efforts to unlock further infrastructure and economic growth in KwaZulu-Natal.
The milestone comes as the provincial government continues to emphasise accountability, sound financial management and improved service delivery across its departments.
