Hawks officer Deena Govender is expected to return to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Monday to continue giving evidence about the alleged theft of a R200-million cocaine consignment in Port Shepstone.
Govender had requested that portions of his testimony be heard behind closed doors, citing the sensitivity of the information involved.
However, the commission rejected his request over the weekend, while introducing three measures aimed at protecting the witness and safeguarding sensitive information.
Under the arrangements, Govender will not be required to reveal the identities of witnesses connected to the investigation into the alleged cocaine theft.
He will also be exempt from disclosing specific police strategies, investigative techniques and intelligence-gathering methods during his testimony.
In addition, evidence relating to Witness P's in-camera testimony concerning a counter-intelligence operation targeting suspected drug gangs in Durban will be heard privately.
Govender's continued testimony is expected to provide further insight into the investigation surrounding the alleged theft of the multimillion-rand cocaine consignment and the police operations linked to the case.
