Former Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina says she believes she has been unfairly targeted as she continues to challenge her immigration status in South Africa.
Adetshina made the comments outside the Cape Town Regional Court on Wednesday after briefly appearing in connection with her deportation case.
“I believe that I have been treated unfairly and targeted. And there has been an attempt to make me an example,” she said.
Adetshina maintains that she was born in South Africa and says she followed the appropriate legal procedures to have her citizenship and legal status determined.
The Cape Town Regional Court postponed delivering judgment after indicating that it could not make a determination while a related matter is pending before the High Court.
Adetshina has approached the High Court to challenge her prohibited status and continues to pursue available legal avenues.
“Throughout this ordeal, I have availed myself of all appropriate legal recourse, and I'll continue to respect and abide by each process,” she said.
She also appealed to the public to avoid spreading misinformation about her case.
“My message is not going to be one born of anger. South Africa is governed by the rule of law, and we should not allow xenophobia and misinformation to determine how people are going to be treated. We should all be guided by the spirit of Ubuntu,” Adetshina said.
The matter is expected to return to court on 23 February 2026 as the legal dispute over her immigration status continues.
