Road Closures Announced for Savage Athletic Club Race in Durban

Motorists in Durban are being warned of a number of road closures and traffic disruptions this weekend as the Savage Athletic Club hosts its 21.1km, 10km and 5km races.

The Durban Metro Police Service says the event will take place on Sunday, 16 August 2026, between 04:30 and 13:00.

The race will start on Athlone Drive and finish behind the Green Hub, with several roads expected to be affected as runners make their way through the route.

Roads impacted by the event include:

  • Athlone Drive eastbound
  • Snell Parade
  • Battery Beach Road
  • Lagoon Drive under the M4 Bridge
  • Masabalala Yengwa Avenue southbound
  • Kenneth Kaunda Road
  • Humber Crescent
  • Soofie Saheb Road
  • Radar Drive
  • Cambridge Drive
  • Windsor Drive
  • Prospect Hall Road
  • Riverside Road over the Umgeni Bridge

The Durban Metro Police Service has advised motorists to use alternative routes where possible to avoid delays.

Drivers who need to travel through the affected areas are also encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys.

Motorists are urged to obey temporary traffic signs and follow instructions from Metro Police officers deployed along the race route.

Authorities say the measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of runners, spectators and road users throughout the event.
