Limpopo police have seized illicit cigarettes worth an estimated R50,000 and a pellet gun during an operation in Mabopane village outside Burgersfort.
Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said officers were conducting patrols when they attempted to stop three vehicles.
According to Ledwaba, two Toyota Hilux bakkies sped away after police activated the blue lights of a marked patrol vehicle, while a Mercedes-Benz Vito was stopped.
Two men who were inside the Vito allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Police searched the vehicle and recovered 384 cartons of Remington Gold cigarettes, with an estimated street value of R50,000.
A pellet gun was also allegedly found inside the vehicle.
The Mercedes-Benz Vito was confiscated and taken into police custody.
Ledwaba said investigations were continuing as police work to identify and arrest the two suspects.
