Postbank is urging SASSA beneficiaries who still use the old Gold Card to replace it with the new Postbank Black Card before the end of August to avoid disruptions to their grant payments.
The Gold Card is set to stop working after 31 August, leaving beneficiaries who have not completed the switch at risk of being unable to access their grant funds.
Postbank has warned beneficiaries not to wait until the deadline to replace their cards, as queues at replacement points are already increasing.
Postbank Chief Commercial Officer Thamsanqa Cele said the number of beneficiaries visiting card replacement sites is expected to rise further during the final four weeks before the deadline.
“We are encouraging beneficiaries to replace their cards as soon as possible and not wait until the last minute,” Cele said.
The new Black Card can be obtained free of charge at selected Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar outlets.
Beneficiaries need to present a valid South African identity document or a temporary ID when applying for the replacement card.
Postbank says early replacement will help beneficiaries avoid potential delays or interruptions when accessing their social grants after the Gold Card expires.
