Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Advocate Andrea Johnson has told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that allegations investigators pressured suspended police sergeant Fannie Nkosi to implicate suspended National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola and Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo are serious and should be investigated.
Johnson was responding to claims by Nkosi that IDAC investigators interviewed him at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre on 13 July without his legal representatives being present.
During proceedings on Tuesday, evidence leader Mahlape Sello read Nkosi's affidavit, in which he alleged that investigator Suneel Bellochun questioned him about an alleged corrupt relationship involving businessman Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala, General Masemola and Lieutenant General Khumalo.
According to the affidavit, Nkosi told investigators he had no knowledge of any corrupt relationship involving the three men. He said he was only aware of Matlala's alleged close ties with Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya and Major General Khan, but claimed the investigator dismissed that information, saying he was not asking about those individuals.
Johnson told the commission the allegations are of a serious nature and require further investigation. She also said the timing of the investigators' visit to Nkosi should be examined and added that she had not been aware the interview had taken place.
The alleged interview occurred on 13 July, the same day Matlala withdrew from a plea agreement with the State in connection with the Medicare24 Tshwane District tender matter.
