Traffic authorities are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution as heavy rain, snowfall and icy road conditions continue to affect parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
An Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive rainfall remains in place along the province's south coast until Wednesday evening. The South African Weather Service has also issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for the central and southern parts of the province.
Forecasters have warned that snowfall over the south-western regions could result in icy road surfaces, increasing the risk of accidents and causing traffic disruptions.
The N3 Toll Concession has cautioned that poor visibility and slippery road conditions are expected, particularly along Van Reenen's Pass, where motorists are advised to reduce speed and remain vigilant.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has also appealed to road users to follow all safety precautions and avoid unnecessary travel where possible.
RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane said snowfall, icy conditions and freezing temperatures are expected to affect motorists travelling through the Eastern Cape Highlands, the Drakensberg region of KwaZulu-Natal and routes leading to Lesotho.
He urged motorists to stay alert for possible road closures, reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions caused by ice and snow. Authorities have advised drivers to postpone non-essential travel in affected areas until conditions improve.
