Senior Crime Intelligence officer Colonel Ismail Dawood has handed himself over to police at the Hillbrow Police Station ahead of his expected court appearance on Tuesday.

Dawood initially reported to the Sandton Police Station on Monday in an attempt to surrender to authorities but was later directed to the Hillbrow Police Station.

His arrest, however, was delayed after confusion emerged over the execution of the arrest warrant and the station where he was required to hand himself in.

Investigators have since confirmed that the delay was caused by an administrative error involving the arrest documentation.

Dawood faces charges of intimidation and extortion relating to allegations involving approximately R3.5 million.

He is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning, where the charges against him are set to be formally presented.
