Residents of River Park in Alexandra have taken to the streets in protest, accusing City Power of failing to deliver on a promise made more than a year ago to electrify the Muhauzana flats.
The demonstrators say the power utility committed to the electrification project in July last year, but claim little progress has been made since then, leaving many households without the promised electricity connections.
Frustrated residents say they have repeatedly raised their concerns with City Power but have yet to receive a satisfactory response.
In addition to the delayed electrification project, the community has voiced concerns over ongoing power supply disruptions, which they attribute to an overloaded electricity network.
Residents are calling on City Power to honour its commitment to electrify the flats and urgently upgrade the area's ageing infrastructure to improve the reliability of the electricity supply.
The protest comes amid growing frustration over service delivery, with community members urging the utility to act swiftly to address both the electrification delays and the strain on the local power network.
