Two men suspected of being involved in a string of robberies and vehicle hijackings across Gauteng and Mpumalanga have been arrested following a police operation in Gauteng.
According to police, the suspects were tracked to Devon after officers acted on intelligence linking them to several violent crimes in the two provinces.
The suspects were eventually arrested in Leslie following a high-speed vehicle chase.
During the arrest, police recovered an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, blue lights, and police uniforms belonging to both the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
Investigators believe the suspects used the police uniforms and blue lights to pose as law enforcement officers in order to carry out robberies and hijackings.
The suspects, aged 32 and 41, are expected to appear in court soon on charges related to the recovered firearm and their alleged involvement in the robberies and hijackings.
Police investigations are continuing, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the case unfolds.
