Spain and China have pledged their support to Venezuela following a series of powerful earthquakes that struck the country on Wednesday, prompting international expressions of solidarity and offers of assistance.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez extended his condolences to those affected by the disaster and reaffirmed Spain's commitment to assisting Venezuela during the recovery effort.

"Spain and I offer our full support to the Venezuelan people following tonight's devastating earthquakes," Sánchez said in a message posted on social media.

"Our thoughts are with the victims and their families."

Spain's Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, said Madrid stands ready to provide any emergency assistance that may be required by Venezuelan authorities.

Meanwhile, China also indicated its willingness to assist the South American nation.

Speaking at a media briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said China would do everything possible to support Venezuela in the aftermath of the earthquakes.

Guo added that no Chinese citizens had been reported injured or killed as a result of the seismic events.

The developments come after two significant earthquakes were recorded in Venezuela on Wednesday. Seismological monitoring agency GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences updated its records on Thursday regarding the second earthquake and clarified that there had been no new earthquake measuring magnitude 7.43.

Authorities in Venezuela continue to assess the extent of the damage and determine the humanitarian assistance required in affected areas.

International partners have indicated their readiness to support relief and recovery efforts as the country responds to the impact of the earthquakes.
