The music world is mourning the loss of legendary R&B singer Peabo Bryson, who has died at the age of 75.

The two-time Grammy Award winner passed away on Tuesday, 2 June, weeks after reportedly suffering a stroke in May. His family confirmed his death in a statement that has since been widely shared by international media outlets.

"While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come," the family said.

The statement described Bryson's career as one that spanned more than five decades, during which his distinctive voice became the soundtrack to countless memorable moments for fans around the world.

"For more than five decades, Peabo's extraordinary voice served as the soundtrack to some of life's most cherished moments. His music carried generations through joyful celebrations, great love stories and enduring moments of comfort and inspiration," the family added.

Tributes have poured in from fans, fellow musicians and celebrities across social media, celebrating Bryson's remarkable contribution to music.

Bryson was best known internationally for his iconic Disney collaborations, including Beauty and the Beast with Celine Dion and A Whole New World with Regina Belle. Both songs became global hits and helped cement his reputation as one of the most respected voices in contemporary music.

Dion was among the first high-profile artists to pay tribute to Bryson, expressing her heartbreak at the news of his passing.

"I’m heartbroken to hear that we lost Peabo Bryson today," she wrote on social media.

The singer reflected on their time recording Beauty and the Beast, recalling how Bryson supported her as she was beginning to record music in English.

"His incredible voice and his kind spirit embodied the beauty of song and performance. He was so wonderful and generous to me all those years ago when we recorded 'Beauty and the Beast'. He made me so comfortable, as I was just learning to sing in English," Dion said.

She added that the memories they created together would remain with her forever.

"He will remain for me always as a real symbol of the joy that music has brought to my life. His voice and his talent will be missed."

Fellow R&B artist Kenny Lattimore also honoured Bryson's legacy, describing him as one of the genre's greatest voices.

"Our brother Peabo Bryson has joined the ancestors. One of the greatest voices our genre has ever known. Thank you for the legendary music, the excellence, and your supreme example. Your legacy is forever etched into the heart of R&B and beyond. Rest in power, my friend," Lattimore wrote on Instagram.

Bryson's passing marks the end of an era for R&B and popular music, but his timeless catalogue and unforgettable performances are expected to continue inspiring generations of artists and fans for years to come.
