South Africa's national football team, Bafana Bafana, has arrived in Pachuca, Mexico, where they will establish their base camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The squad landed on Tuesday after a lengthy journey from Johannesburg, arriving in high spirits as preparations intensify for the tournament.
The trip included a two-hour refuelling stop in Cape Verde before the team continued its journey to Mexico.
Bafana Bafana received a warm welcome on arrival, with a large contingent of local and international media gathered at the airport and outside the team's hotel.
Interest in the South African side is reportedly growing among Mexican football fans, particularly with the opening match of the tournament set to feature hosts Mexico against South Africa.
The highly anticipated clash will take place at the iconic Estadio Azteca, one of world football's most historic venues.
Shortly after checking into their hotel in Pachuca, the players took part in a light training session aimed at helping them recover from the long-haul flight and overcome the effects of jet lag.
The session marked the start of the team's final preparations as they gear up for their World Cup campaign and the challenge of facing the host nation in front of a passionate home crowd.
With anticipation building ahead of the tournament, Bafana Bafana will now focus on acclimatising to local conditions and fine-tuning their preparations before taking to the field for the opening match.
