The Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court is set to hear the case against 32-year-old Sihle Ntshiza this Monday, as the community demands justice for the tragic death of his six-year-old daughter, Snehlihle Khathi.

Ntshiza, a resident of Amahlongwa near Umkomaas, has been charged with rape and murder after the young girl succumbed to injuries sustained during the alleged abuse. The accused has remained in custody since his last appearance, where he opted to abandon his bail application.

The case has sparked deep sorrow and outrage in the local community. The victim's mother, Sinenhlanhla Khathi, expresses the profound guilt she feels for having allowed her daughter to live with her father.

In a show of support for the grieving family, local residents and activists are expected to stage a demonstration outside the courthouse on Monday.

The court proceedings coincide with Child Protection Week, which is being observed across South Africa from May 29 to June 5. This year’s campaign places a critical focus on strengthening the country’s legal and social responses to statutory rape and child abuse, a theme that adds a layer of urgency to the call for a swift judicial resolution in this case.
