Three people have been killed and three others wounded in separate shooting incidents across the Cape Flats in Cape Town over the past 24 hours.

In the latest incident, a 28-year-old man was shot dead in an apparent drive-by shooting in Cafda Village, Retreat.

Wesley Twigg said the victim was walking along the road when a black vehicle approached him and one of the occupants opened fire.

“The victim was shot in the head and was declared dead on the scene. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” said Twigg.

Police in Steenberg have opened a murder investigation.

In a separate incident in Mfuleni on Wednesday night, a passenger seated inside a minibus taxi was shot and wounded after being approached by an unknown gunman.

Twigg said the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was transported to hospital for medical treatment.

Police said the motive for that attack remains under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, detectives are also investigating a shooting in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, which claimed the life of one person and left three others injured, including a five-year-old child.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the Wallacedene shooting as investigations continue.
