Emergency services responded to several road accidents across Durban and surrounding areas during Wednesday morning’s peak traffic period, including a scholar transport crash in KwaNdengezi.
According to ALS Paramedics, one of the incidents involved a scholar transport minibus that overturned on Old Richmond Road.
Shortly afterwards, paramedics were dispatched to a collision on Playfair Road in Durban Central, where three people sustained injuries.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said all injured patients were treated at the scene before being transported to various hospitals for further medical care.
“Paramedics were then called to Umgeni Road near Walter Gilbert Road for a multiple vehicle crash involving a taxi. Approximately 18 people had sustained various injuries,” Jamieson said.
He added that another crash occurred at around 7:15am on the M19 near the Reservoir Hills off-ramp in Pinetown, where four people were injured in a single-vehicle accident.
ALS Paramedics has urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads and maintain safe following distances to reduce the risk of collisions.
