A second Mpumalanga taxi boss and businessman is expected to appear in court alongside prominent taxi operator Joe Sibanyoni and two co-accused on Friday in connection with an extortion case.
The businessman, whose identity cannot yet be disclosed until his court appearance, handed himself over to police on Friday after authorities indicated they had been attempting to locate him since Wednesday.
He is expected to join the other accused in applying for bail.
The businessman’s legal representative said his client had cooperated fully with investigators and was never evading arrest.
“He has never been at large. We have been cooperating. He was not aware that the police were looking for him up until we inquired with prosecution and the police,” the attorney said.
“He has now handed himself over, he has been processed and we will proceed with bail.”
Sibanyoni, popularly known as “Ferrari”, was arrested earlier this week as part of an investigation linked to alleged extortion activities.
The matter forms part of broader law enforcement efforts targeting organised crime and alleged underworld networks in Mpumalanga.
