Eight people accused of being part of an alleged insurance-related murder syndicate are continuing with their bail application in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court.
The accused allegedly took out insurance policies on nine unsuspecting victims who later died under mysterious circumstances before claiming payouts worth approximately R10 million.
Prosecutors allege the group formed part of a criminal syndicate led by former police sergeant Rachel Kutumela.
During previous proceedings, defence attorney Mashudu Kwinda rejected claims that he had failed to cooperate with the investigating officer regarding affidavits submitted in support of the bail application.
Kwinda argued that his clients should be granted bail and maintained that the investigating officer did not require affidavits from the accused in order to oppose their release.
The State is opposing bail.
Investigating officer Keshi Mabunda told the court that affidavits from the accused had not been received.
The accused have remained in custody since their arrest in March as investigations into the alleged syndicate continue.
