The bail hearing of National Coloured Congress leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams was delayed at the Pinetown Magistrate's Court west of Durban on Wednesday following his late arrival.

It is understood that the police vehicle transporting Adams to court was delayed in traffic.

Adams has been held at an undisclosed detention facility since his arrest in Cape Town last week.

He is expected to formally apply for bail, an application the State has indicated it will oppose.

Adams faces two charges of interfering with police investigations and two counts of fraud.

He is accused of interfering in investigations linked to high-profile assassinations.

According to allegations before the court, Adams allegedly visited accused individuals at Westville Prison while posing as an official parliamentary visitor and obtained statements from them.

Proceedings are expected to continue once Adams appears before the court.
