Prominent Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni, widely known as “Ferrari”, has been arrested in connection with an alleged extortion case.
Sources close to the investigation say Sibanyoni was taken into custody by the South African Police Service Special Task Force in Pretoria during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
He has reportedly been linked to alleged underworld figures, including Vusimuzi Matlala.
While police have yet to release full details surrounding the arrest, the case is understood to centre on allegations of extortion.
Sibanyoni’s name has repeatedly surfaced during proceedings before the Madlanga Commission, where testimony has touched on alleged police information leaks, criminal underworld rivalries and a previous assassination attempt against him.
Authorities are expected to provide further details once Sibanyoni appears in court.
