The South African Police Service Political Killings Task Team has arrested National Coloured Congress MP Fadiel Adams.
Adams was taken into custody on Tuesday at the Pelican Park Parliamentary Village.
The arrest comes hours after police issued a statement calling on the MP to present himself at the nearest police station in connection with allegations of fraud and defeating the ends of justice.
Earlier, Adams had indicated in a media interview that he intended to hand himself over on Wednesday. However, police officials arrived at his parliamentary residence shortly before noon and effected the arrest.
Authorities allege that Adams interfered with investigations into the murder of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa.
Police have not yet provided further details on his expected court appearance.
This is a developing story.
