A council sitting of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality collapsed on Thursday after opposition parties staged a walkout.
The Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ActionSA withdrew from proceedings, citing the absence of Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza and Acting City Manager Tsholofelo Koopedi.
The meeting had been convened to address legal matters involving suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and City Manager Kagiso Lerutla.
The two officials recently appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate Court, where they were granted bail of R30,000 each. They face charges including fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice, linked to testimony presented at the Madlanga Commission.
The developments have intensified scrutiny over governance and accountability within the metro.
