A Cape Town man accused of murdering his ex-wife has abandoned his bail application during his appearance in court.
Bafana Timotheus (66) appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and intimidation involving a firearm.
Timotheus is alleged to have run over his ex-wife, Sharon Kayster, multiple times in what prosecutors describe as a jealous rage. Kayster died on 18 April as a result of the incident.
Court proceedings revealed that Timotheus was already out on bail at the time for a separate matter in which he allegedly threatened Kayster with a firearm.
Following his court appearance, community members and activists gathered outside the courthouse, calling for a life sentence if he is convicted.
The case has been postponed for further proceedings.
