The case against nine people accused of murdering Sifundo Madasi is set to resume at the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning.
Madasi, a part-time lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology, was allegedly attacked and killed in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, in February. The incident reportedly followed accusations that he had sexually assaulted two minors.
The group faces a charge of murder.
All nine accused were previously granted bail of R2,000 each, subject to strict conditions, including that they are prohibited from contacting any state witnesses.
The State had opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the offence and concerns over possible witness intimidation. However, the court ruled that exceptional circumstances warranted their release.
The matter was postponed to allow for further investigations.
