Three men accused of the brutal murder of a north coast family have abandoned their bail application during their first appearance at the KwaDukuza Magistrate's Court.
The suspects, all in their 20s, are linked to the kidnapping and killing of Allen and Sandy Monswamy, their two children, and three elderly relatives in a mass murder that has shocked the community.
KwaZulu-Natal Deputy Police Commissioner for Crime Prevention, Anthony Gopaul, confirmed that authorities are actively pursuing a fourth suspect believed to be involved in the crime.
“As far as the outstanding suspect is concerned, I can assure the public that we are aware of who the suspect is, and we have a team specifically tracking towards the end objective of making an arrest,” said Gopaul.
Speaking outside court, Gopaul emphasised that a specialised investigative team had been assembled to handle the case.
“This is not about the number of officers, but about having the right expertise. The team includes specialists in kidnapping, house robberies, and serious violent crimes, supported by forensic experts,” he said.
He added that the coordinated approach had proven effective in advancing the investigation.
The accused face a total of 17 charges, including murder, kidnapping, and robbery. One of the suspects also faces an additional charge of rape.
The case has been postponed to June as investigations continue.
