The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has strongly condemned alleged social media threats directed at State prosecutor Advocate Joel Cesar, who is involved in the firearm handling case against Julius Malema.
The NPA said it had taken note of content circulating on the social media platform X, which it claims purports to represent the Economic Freedom Fighters and includes statements amounting to serious threats against the prosecutor.
In a statement, the authority said it “strongly condemns any form of intimidation or threats against its prosecutors,” adding that officials are constitutionally mandated to perform their duties “without fear, favour or prejudice.”
The NPA warned that such conduct undermines the rule of law and poses a direct risk to the safety of those tasked with upholding justice.
It further highlighted growing concerns about the safety of prosecutors in the country, particularly in the Eastern Cape, where three prosecutors have been killed over the past two years.
The authority said these incidents underscore the real dangers faced by members of the prosecuting service and reinforce the need for stronger protection measures.
