Hours before the expected deployment of South African National Defence Force troops to crime hotspots, Cape Town has been shaken by another deadly shooting.
Two people were killed in an early morning attack in Hanover Park on Wednesday. Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots shortly after 5am, after which two men were discovered dead inside a shack-like structure.
Police have since cordoned off the scene, while community members gathered nearby.
Authorities have not yet released further details on the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, reports indicate a surge in violence across the city, with at least eight other people believed to have been killed in separate incidents over the past 24 hours.
The situation remains fluid as law enforcement and security forces prepare for increased intervention.
