IPID Investigates Fatal Shooting of Teen in Western Cape

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in the Western Cape has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy.

According to preliminary reports, the teenager and his 13-year-old sister were walking a friend home when a police van approached them. The siblings reportedly fled back towards their home, at which point officers gave chase and allegedly opened fire.

A community member said the boy was later found lying in a pool of blood.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the motive for police action, remain unclear at this stage.

IPID is expected to investigate the conduct of the officers involved as part of its mandate to probe deaths resulting from police action.
