Johannesburg – The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a recall of certain Ford Transit and Ford Tourneo Custom vehicles due to a potential safety risk linked to a battery defect.
The recall affects 582 vehicles from the 2022 to 2026 model years, sold across South Africa between 2021 and 2025.
According to manufacturer Ford Motor Company, the affected vehicles may develop a fault in the battery system, which could result in an acidic smell, a hissing sound or the release of gas inside the vehicle.
The company warned that high temperatures could trigger a chemical reaction within the battery, leading to the release of hydrogen sulphide gas.
Vehicle owners have been urged to contact their nearest authorised Ford dealership as soon as possible to arrange for an inspection and any necessary repairs.
