A man has been shot dead following a tense hostage stand-off at the Ntuzuma Police Station.
It is believed the suspect was being processed for attempted murder when he allegedly overpowered a police officer and seized the officer’s firearm.
The man then reportedly held several officers hostage inside the station, triggering a stand-off that lasted about 45 minutes.
Members of the South African Police Service called in hostage negotiators in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully.
During the incident, police were able to infiltrate the area where the suspect had positioned himself. The suspect was subsequently shot dead.
Authorities have since cordoned off the area while investigations continue.
