Police have increased their presence in the Kalksteenfontein area near Bishop Lavis on the Cape Flats following a fatal shooting that left three people dead and four others wounded on Thursday night.
Authorities believe the incident may be linked to gang activity. Two of the victims who died in the attack were elderly men.
According to Novela Potelwa, the South African Police Service has reinforced deployments in the Bishop Lavis area in response to the incident.
Potelwa said the additional police presence is intended to prevent further violence and reassure residents in the community.
“The additional deployment is aimed at ensuring that no further incidents occur,” she said.
Police said the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit is investigating the shooting.
Preliminary reports indicate that a group of men were sitting outside a residence in Kalksteenfontein drinking when a vehicle allegedly stopped nearby. Three armed suspects reportedly got out of the vehicle and opened fire on the group before fleeing the scene.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
