Motorists travelling across Gauteng have been urged to exercise heightened caution following persistent rainfall that has left several roads wet and slippery, increasing the likelihood of crashes.

Provincial traffic authorities say officers are closely monitoring conditions and remain on standby to respond to weather-related incidents.

Sello Maremane, spokesperson for the Gauteng Provincial Traffic Police, advised motorists to adopt safer driving habits during the rainy spell.

“Motorists are advised to maintain a safe following distance and to drive within the prescribed speed limit,” he said.

Pedestrians have also been cautioned against attempting to cross low-lying bridges or flooded areas, which may pose serious safety risks.

Authorities say response teams will remain on high alert as the wet weather continues, with drivers encouraged to plan trips carefully and allow extra travel time. After all, it’s better to arrive late than star in your own accident report.
