A severe thunderstorm battered parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Friday morning, prompting a weather warning for heavy rain and damaging winds across the province’s western regions.
The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 alert, cautioning residents to prepare for intense downpours and strong gusts that could disrupt daily activities.
In Durban, heavy rainfall accompanied by winds exceeding 40km/h swept through the city, reducing visibility in several areas and creating hazardous driving conditions during the morning commute.
Forecasters have also warned of possible hail, frequent lightning and localised flooding, which may pose a risk to homes, roads and other infrastructure.
Residents are advised to exercise caution, avoid flooded routes and secure loose outdoor items as the storm system moves through the region.
