Police in KwaZulu-Natal have dismantled what authorities describe as a large-scale drug syndicate operating in Chatsworth, south of Durban, during a coordinated law enforcement crackdown on Wednesday.
The disruptive operation was led by eThekwini Metro Police, supported by Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks, and South African Police Service Crime Intelligence.
Officers moved into several suspected drug dens across the area, targeting houses allegedly being used as distribution and supply points for narcotics.
Authorities said the coordinated effort forms part of a broader provincial strategy that will see 11 suspected drug operations dismantled simultaneously in various parts of the province.
Chatsworth has been identified as a key hotspot due to the high volume of drugs believed to be circulating within the community.
Several arrests are expected as investigations continue.
This is a developing story and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
