A son of a former Zimbabwe president has been arrested in Johannesburg after allegedly shooting a security guard at a private residence in Hyde Park.

The incident reportedly occurred at the family’s home on Thursday, with emergency services rushing the injured guard to hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries has not yet been confirmed.

Police officers were seen at the property as investigations got underway, though authorities have yet to release further details surrounding the circumstances that led to the shooting.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation understands that the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

Speaking to the broadcaster, a man who identified himself only as “Batista” and claimed to be part of the family’s private security team, said he had received a call requesting assistance but was later denied access to the property.

Law enforcement officials are continuing to gather evidence, and charges are expected to be clarified once preliminary investigations are complete.
