Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations of political interference and corruption within the police service is weighing up whether President Cyril Ramaphosa should appear before it in person.

Members of Parliament remain divided on how the president’s input should be received, with some calling for a physical appearance while others suggest alternative arrangements.

The committee held a virtual meeting on Monday to deliberate on potential witnesses and determine whether they should testify in person or through other means.

The proposed list of names will now be submitted to the committee’s legal team for assessment before a final decision is made.

The inquiry forms part of Parliament’s efforts to examine claims of undue political influence and misconduct within the country’s law enforcement structures.
