A man arrested in connection with the murder of three children in the Lulwane area of Emanguzi, northern KwaZulu-Natal, is expected to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder.

The victims, aged between seven and 15, were allegedly hacked to death at their home on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the children’s mother had been out attending to errands related to her small business when the attack occurred.

“Reports indicate that the mother of the children was out running errands for her small business and when she went home, she found her three children, aged seven, nine and fifteen years old, butchered to death,” Netshiunda said.

He added that police were called to the scene immediately and launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of a suspect on Sunday morning.

“The suspect was arrested on Sunday, 1 February 2026, and he will appear in the Emanguzi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 February 2026,” Netshiunda confirmed.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the suspect or the possible motive for the killings. Investigations are ongoing.

The incident has left the local community in shock, with residents describing the crime as both tragic and deeply disturbing.
