KwaZulu-Natal police say they may have prevented a potentially serious cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery after arresting a suspect found in possession of explosives during a late-night patrol in Ntuzuma.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

According to police, members of the Inanda Trio Task Team were conducting routine patrols over the weekend when they noticed a white VW Polo parked along Ithendele Road on Saturday night. The vehicle’s presence raised suspicion, prompting officers to conduct a search.

During the inspection, police discovered a backpack in the boot containing explosives and detonators items commonly associated with CIT heists.

The man was arrested at the scene and is believed to be linked to several cash-in-transit robberies across the province. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his alleged involvement.

Police say the seizure may have averted another violent robbery, as cash-in-transit attacks often place both security personnel and members of the public at significant risk.
