Parents have voiced frustration after Lenasia Model Primary School in Lenasia was closed on Friday morning, with further closures planned for Monday, following a strike by local scholar transport associations.
According to parents, the school principal only informed them of the closures on Friday morning. The strike comes after Transport Minister Barbara Creecy led a blitz operation on Thursday that resulted in the impoundment of more than 60 scholar transport vehicles in the area.
Disgruntled parent Sthokoza Ngubane expressed anger at the disruption. “I’m not happy at all. I had to stop working and come here. My child was supposed to write a spelling test today. Now everything has to stop because of this issue with the transport vehicles,” Ngubane said.
The situation has highlighted ongoing tensions between authorities and local scholar transport operators, with parents urging a swift resolution to minimise disruptions to learners’ education.
