Eight suspected kidnappers are expected to appear before the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court on Monday following the successful rescue of a man who was abducted in Gauteng earlier this month.
The 43-year-old victim was kidnapped while travelling with his wife and was later held captive at a hostel in Soweto.
Police say the breakthrough came after an intelligence-driven operation, which led to multiple arrests across Johannesburg and Soweto.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that the victim has since been reunited with his family.
“The victim was released from Mzimhlophe Hostel, where he was kept, and has been reunited with his family. All eight arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Lenasia court today, 19 January 2026, on charges of kidnapping and extortion,” Nevhuhulwi said.
Investigations into the matter are continuing as authorities work to dismantle kidnapping syndicates operating in the province.
