Award-winning American rapper J. Cole has announced the release date for his long-awaited new album, marking his first solo project since 2021.
The “Love Yourz” hitmaker revealed on Wednesday, January 14, that his seventh studio album, titled The Fall-Out, will be released on February 6. The announcement was accompanied by the surprise debut of a new song and music video.
Shortly after unveiling the project, Cole premiered a track from the album titled “Disc 2 Track 2” a working title that has sparked speculation that the upcoming release will be a two-disc album. The song’s music video, which launched on YouTube, opens with a deeply personal message from the rapper reflecting on the decade-long journey behind the project.
“For the past 10 years, this album has been handcrafted with one intention: a personal challenge to myself to create my best work. To do on my last what I was unable to do on my first,” Cole wrote.
The two-time Grammy Award winner said the album represents a personal and professional milestone.
“I owed it to myself and to hip hop. I had no way of knowing how much time, focus and energy it would take, but despite countless challenges, I always knew I would reach the finish line,” he added.
Industry reports suggest that earlier versions of the album were set to feature guest appearances from Drake and Kendrick Lamar. However, following the pair’s high-profile feud, Cole is believed to have returned to the studio to rework portions of the project. The rapper has not publicly commented on the speculation and has yet to release the official track list.
The Fall-Out will be Cole’s first solo album since his critically acclaimed 2021 release, The Off-Season, and anticipation among fans is already reaching fever pitch which, for J. Cole, is simply called Tuesday.
