Two people have died following a head-on collision between a truck and a bakkie on the R617 between Boston and Bulwer in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene early on Thursday morning, where the road was temporarily closed to allow rescue operations and accident management.
Midlands EMS spokesperson Ian Winterboer confirmed that two occupants were declared dead at the scene.
“Two occupants were found to have sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on scene,” Winterboer said.
He added that two other patients sustained serious injuries and were receiving advanced medical care.
“The injured patients are being stabilised on scene before being transported to an appropriate medical facility for further treatment,” he said.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, while motorists were advised to seek alternative routes as emergency teams continued their work.
