A 47-year-old man is set to appear in the Booysens Magistrates’ Court in Johannesburg on charges of kidnapping.
Ethiopian national Mantesnot Lendido Erisado faces twelve counts of kidnapping, as well as an additional charge of failing to stop when instructed to do so by police. He is expected to secure legal representation and apply for bail during his court appearance.
The suspect was arrested after authorities were alerted to a group of half-naked Ethiopian nationals, aged between 20 and 30, who were seen walking through the streets of Mulbarton last week.
Police investigations led them to the accused, who allegedly transported two additional victims in a vehicle. Officers intercepted the car, but the suspect attempted to flee the scene before being pursued and arrested.
The case is expected to continue as investigations unfold.
