The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has released its December and seasonal outlook, indicating a 60 percent chance of afternoon showers and thundershowers across Gauteng, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.
Forecasters say the outlook is intended to help the public plan ahead, particularly with travel and holiday arrangements during the festive season.
SAWS forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said conditions will continue to be closely monitored. “If there is sufficient moisture, we will continue monitoring weather patterns and issuing warnings where necessary,” Thobela said.
The forecast comes amid a series of weather alerts issued in recent weeks for several parts of the country. KwaZulu-Natal, which is frequently affected by flooding, has already recorded heavy rainfall this month.
The persistent wet weather is expected to dampen festive season activities in some regions, as authorities continue to urge the public to remain alert to changing conditions.
