The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has urged motorists to use alternative routes following severe traffic congestion on the N12 eastbound in Protea Industrial Park, south of Johannesburg.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the delays are the result of flooding caused by extreme rainfall in the area. The affected section is just after the Sasol garage near Abu Baker Asvat Drive.
Fihla advised motorists to exercise caution while travelling through the area, warning of hazardous driving conditions due to the inclement weather.
“Motorists are advised to be aware of flooding on the N12 eastbound, which is causing heavy delays. Drivers should reduce their speed, maintain a safe following distance, avoid severely flooded roads and low-lying bridges, and remain patient in areas of high traffic volumes,” he said.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as rainfall persists.
