The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has secured a court order to freeze R2.7 million in a divorce settlement connected to alleged misuse of National Lotteries Commission (NLC) funds.

The money, originally intended for the construction of old-age homes, was reportedly used to purchase land. The land is now owned by the ex-wife of businessman Alfred Sigudla following their divorce. It is alleged that Sigudla received nearly R23 million from the NLC.

SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said the investigation dates back to 2020, when the Unit began probing irregularities at the National Lotteries Commission.
