Multiple people are believed to be trapped under concrete and debris after a four-storey building under construction at the River Range Ranch temple in Verulam collapsed on Friday.
Early reports suggest that the temple priest may be among those trapped. Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa, said “The four-storey temple has collapsed with several individuals trapped underneath. Survivors are communicating from under the building. We are currently treating eight patients”
He added that the number of people still trapped remains unknown, and there is no confirmation of fatalities at this stage.
Emergency services, including paramedics and specialised rescue teams, have been called to the scene as efforts to free those trapped continue.
This is a developing story.
